On 16 and 17 October 2026, guitarist Ondrej Veselý presented two concerts in Slovakia, bringing together contemporary music, culture and diplomacy. The concerts took place at the Kysucká Gallery in Oščadnica and the New Synagogue in Žilina, featuring works by Estonian composer Liisa Hirsch.
The concert in Oščadnica on 16 October was attended by Peter Pochaba, Estonia’s Honorary Consul in Slovakia, who also organised a wine reception on the occasion. The following day, Counsellor Veikko Montonen attended the concert at the New Synagogue in Žilina, alongside other members of the diplomatic community.
The programme featured music by Estonian composer Liisa Hirsch, whose work explores sound, timbre and attentive listening. Her compositions offer a distinctive approach to contemporary classical music, inviting audiences to experience sound in new and thoughtful ways.
Liisa Hirsch’s participation in Slovakia was supported by the Estonian Embassy in Vienna, which covered her travel expenses as part of the international contemporary music project Concentrated Voices. The project brings together composers from several countries to create new works for classical guitar, providing a platform for contemporary musical expression and international artistic collaboration.
The two concerts offered an opportunity to showcase Estonian contemporary music in Slovakia while bringing together musicians, diplomats and audiences. They also highlighted the role of cultural exchange in strengthening connections between countries and fostering international cooperation through music.
